What is melasma, not just a blemish?

Melasma cannot be seen merely as a phenomenon where melanin pigment is excessively produced and deposited on the skin.

In the deep dermal layer of the skin, pigment-forming cells called melanocytes become excessively active.

Melanin pigment produced by these cells tends to repeatedly spread over a wide area.

This ultimately reaches the dermal layer, taking the form of a complex pigment disorder that persists for a long time.

In particular, external factors such as UV exposure and hormonal changes stimulate melanocytes even further.

It is known that microscopic inflammatory reactions and vascular-related factors within the skin are complexly involved in this process.
