A mole refers to a skin lesion that appears when melanin-producing cells abnormally increase in the epidermis or dermis layer of the skin.

While they may appear as common pigmented lesions, the appropriate treatment method can vary depending on the depth and location of the skin layer where the mole is situated.

The Er:YAG laser is advantageous for precisely resurfacing the outer layer of the skin. This can help reduce the burden on surrounding skin when removing superficial moles close to the epidermis, allowing for a natural exfoliation.

This laser is particularly suitable for facial mole removal as it can reduce the likelihood of scarring while achieving cosmetic improvements. Following this, finishing with a CO2 laser to thermally treat the base of the mole can help eliminate any melanin cells that may remain deep within the skin. This contributes to reducing the possibility of so-called ‘recurrent moles,’ where root cells remain after surface removal and cause regrowth.

A CO2 laser finishing process may be particularly important in the following cases:

-When the mole’s surface is slightly raised or feels thick to the touch

-When there is a history of the mole recurring in the same area

-When diagnosed as a nevus located deep in the dermis (e.g., blue nevi, gray-brown nevi, etc.)


*Flat warts are viral skin diseases caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. They typically spread widely within the epidermal layer of the skin and often appear as thin, broadly spread, small brownish or flesh-colored lesions when viewed with the naked eye. They are particularly prone to appearing when immunity is weakened and can spread to other areas by touching or scratching, so starting treatment early can be beneficial.

The Er:YAG laser can help evenly ablate the epidermal layer of the skin and is therefore utilized for flat warts spread across various areas.

It is used for uniform removal while minimizing skin damage to the lesion. However, due to the viral nature of flat warts, there is a possibility of recurrence if only the surface is removed. In such cases, a finishing process involving applying heat around the lesion with a CO2 laser can be considered to further treat any remaining virus-infected cells in the epidermis and surrounding areas, thereby reducing the chance of recurrence.

Combining with a CO2 laser finishing may be beneficial in the following cases:

*Milia are small, white, grain-like skin lesions formed by the accumulation of keratin, a protein, beneath the skin. They primarily occur around the eyes, on the cheeks, and forehead, and unlike sebaceous cysts, they are less associated with inflammation or infection and are usually considered for removal for cosmetic purposes.

The Er:YAG laser can be usefully employed for milia removal. It precisely ablates the skin surface to remove the thin skin layer covering the milium and creates a channel for the trapped keratin inside to be expelled. A light finishing touch with a CO2 laser after removal helps reduce the possibility of remaining keratinocytes proliferating again, thereby preventing milia from recurring in the same location. However, precise intensity control is crucial, as excessive thermal stimulation to the skin can lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

A CO2 laser finish is particularly recommended in the following cases:

-When milia repeatedly appear in the same area multiple times

-When there is a history of the lesion re-emerging during the recovery process after treatment

-When desiring a more even and clean result during the recovery process after removing multiple milia


*Syringomas are benign tumors that occur due to the abnormal proliferation of sweat gland tissue in the dermis layer of the skin. They are characterized by multiple small, round, bead-like skin lesions appearing under the eyes, on the cheeks, and forehead. They may have a genetic predisposition and are particularly common in women in their 20s and 30s.

The Er:YAG laser can precisely and finely remove the skin surface, making it useful for treating syringomas in delicate areas like around the eyes. It refines the outer skin and treats the upper part of the sweat gland lesion, and the low likelihood of scarring or hyperpigmentation during recovery can contribute to a favorable cosmetic outcome. However, for particularly small and thin skin tags, a method of precisely ablating the lesion surface with an Er:YAG laser followed by a CO2 laser finish on the root of the lesion can be considered. This process helps manage the root tissue of the skin tag, thereby reducing the likelihood of recurrence in that area. Thermal stimulation affects fibrous cells and microvessels within the tissue, contributing to inhibiting the regrowth environment of the lesion.

After mole removal, how long should regenerative tape like Duoderm be applied?





Mole removal procedures involve removing the outer layer of the skin, which can cause minor irritation to the skin.

Therefore, properly protecting and managing the treated area is an important part of recovery.


Maintaining an appropriately moist environment in the treated area, in particular, can aid recovery and reduce the likelihood of scarring.

For these reasons, we recommend applying Duoderm, a hydrocolloid dressing product.


Duoderm helps the treated area stay moist, promoting smooth cell regeneration and slowing down unnecessary scab formation, which can reduce the possibility of scarring.


Apply Duoderm immediately after mole removal, change it every 3-5 days, and continue to manage the area consistently for at least 7 days.

We recommend a total management period of approximately 10 days.


If Duoderm use is uncomfortable or causes an allergic reaction, you should frequently apply a regenerative cream or moisturizing gel to prevent the area from drying out. Additionally, it is important to carefully apply sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher and avoid touching the treated area.
